IDAHO - May 17th

May 17th: The IDAHO "International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia"
In several places around the UK there will be events held to mark the day.
The details of individual events are not easy to find on there, although, through an events magazine for Sheffield, I can tell you the details of Sheffields event. (they did print the date in said magazine as 2009 though... sloppy!)
"Sheffield - In the Pink" (from http://www.eventsheffield.co.uk/event/13356/idaho)
The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) is designed to raise awareness of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-people throughout the world and also the lives of their families, friends and colleagues. To mark this event, the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and Sheffield City Council are arranging a One-minute Noise to speak out loudly and clearly that homophobia and transphobia are simply not acceptable. You are inviting you to join in with standing up against these forms of prejudice and discrimination.

A number of key speakers will be present to pledge their support and call for an end to homophobia and transphobia worldwide. This event will take place at The Peace Gardens, commencing at 5.30pm. The One-minute noise will take place around 6.00pm. The organisers hope you, your friends, families and partners will be able to join them.

The theme this year is "Sheffield - In The Pink" and you are invited to bring pink flags, streamers etc, or wear an item of pink clothing to the event.

I don't know if people have heard of this before, but it's something I am going to go to, and I hope I can persuade as many of you to come and support the event, as well as bringing people you know to come and support it too.
